How We Got Started
I’m Carey Schultz of Nature’s Chicken
The Schultz family have been growing apples for six generations and are leading the growth of certified, organic, apples in South Australia. With the apples well established I started looking at what else I could produce in a better, sustainable and humane way. Ideally something that would complement the apple orchards. Given how Australians love chicken, and how factory produced chickens live a horrific life Nature’s Chicken was a logical path to follow.
Now we produce some of the best tasting, pasture raised chicken in Australia.
True free range, ethically raised poultry
Our chicks are hatched for us and delivered at two days old. After incubating for a couple of weeks and then spending some time in a protected nursery patch they then move into the apple orchard where they are raised on rolling hillsides in the shade of apple trees, pretty much as nature intended.
Our chickens spend 10 weeks growing on grasslands with supplementary, organic grain feed. At 12 weeks they are sorted and sent to be processed.
Our whole, pasture raised, chickens average 1.9 to 2.2 kg and are available from good butchers for the retail market. Bulk orders, restaurants and butchers are supplied direct from the farm with deliveries on a daily basis.
